YAZALI, Jan 16: The four day long Arunachal Open Paragliding Accuracy Championship 2020, which concluded at Yazali in Lower Subansiri district on Wednesday  saw paragliders from several states battling it out in the skies for the prestigious title.
The championship was organized by Arunachal Pradesh Society for Education & Development (APSED)/ Paragliding Association of Arunachal with support from the Department of Tourism.
Lalramnghaka from Mizoram bagged the first position and walked away with a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 and a trophy, while Kulu Liyak from East Kameng and Thangboi of Mizoram were adjudged second and third place. Both were rewarded with a cash prize of rupees 30,000 and 20,000 each along with a trophy. Nick Jasmin and Meena Doka of East Kameng district recieved consolation prizes.
The event saw the participation of 19 paragliding enthusiasts from Assam, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal and Uttarakhand who took part in the competition. The Chief Guest, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Yazali, JT Obi said that such adventure sports events would go a long way in promoting adventure tourism in the state.

'Such an event would not only boost tourist flow but would positively impact the economic prosperity of the local people and provide vast opportunities to the unemployed and dropouts as volunteers to earn something,' he said.
The ADC said that the administration would leave no stone unturned to develop this place as the hub of aero activities. He further also assured the Paragliding Association of Arunachal to give required support in conducting the event, whenever it would be held in Yazali.
Earlier, President Vijay Sonam, informed that the championship is being organized to promote adventure tourism, especially paragliding in Yazali and Lumdung.
Describing the two sites as one of the best locations for airborne gliding, Sonam pointed out that  the district has vast potential for adventure tourism and paragliding adds a dash of thrill to the calm  atmosphere.
He also informed that from next year the Paragliding Association of Arunachal would be included in the State Olympic Games.
