PASIGHAT, Feb 13: Indian Council of Agricultural Research - National Research Centre on Mithun (ICAR-NRC on Mithun) under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP), in collaboration with the state’s Department of Vet. & A. H. along with Ledum village authority organized ‘Mithun Mela cum Technology Awareness Programme’ in Ledum village near Pasighat on February 12.
Inaugurating the mela, MLA Tatung Jamoh lauded the efforts of ICAR-NRC on popularizing the scientific rearing of mithun and for organizing such events regularly in the area. He urged the farmers to adopt scientific rearing of mithun for more profit and congratulated the village GBs for motivating farmers to bring a large number of mithuns to the mela.
Earlier Director, ICAR-NRCM Dr. Abhijit Mitra, apprised the gathering about the initiatives of the institute towards popularizing scientific semi-intensive rearing of mithun and its conservation.
The mela was attended by 400 farmers who brought more than 100 mithuns which were vaccinated against FMD and BQ. The scientist-farmer meet, an interactive session, was also organized in the afternoon. During this interaction, need for regular vaccination, supplementation with mineral mixture, diversified use and conservation of bulls were elaborated.
Notably, Ledum is one of the cleanest villages in the district with high density mithun population where people mostly depend on its farming as a viable economic activity. NRCM release
