PASIGHAT, Jun 14:East Siang Deputy Commissioner Tamiyo Tatak today declared Mirem as the first smokeless village after inaugurating and distributing ‘free LPG connections’ to 120 BPL women beneficiaries under the Expanded Pradhan Mantri UjjwalaYojna (PMUY) in presence of the proprietor of M/S Sanggo Gas Agency and Ex-Minister Dr. Tangor Tapak, IOC Officer Syed MM Hussain among others.

Spreading awareness about government welfare schemes and other people-centric initiatives Tatak said that twenty one villages would be converted to smokeless switching conventional fuel to the LPG under this central flagship scheme in the district, in days to come.

Taking privilege, the DC stated that specific activities vary depending on the officers and therefore they should ensure that government welfare schemes and programs are put into action and services to the people are delivered correctly. GBs must act according to framed laws and guidelines to deliver justice. They must be free from politics and impartial, added the DC.

Earlier, Sales Officer Syed MM Hussian said they had held village meetings and conducted demonstrations about the usage of LPG stove and created an awareness among the villagers as to how the LPG connection would improve their lives. He also presented a brief report on identification of villages and selection process of beneficiaries. He delivered lecture to boost the confidence of the women about adopting this clean, green cooking fuel and cleared doubts and misconceptions
