TEZU, Jan 24: Minister PHED Wangki Lowang during his two-day visit here has underscored the need to tap perennial water sources to harness drinking water supply in the outskirts of the township.
“Due to flash flood and huge turbidity during monsoon, the head point remains dumped with debris and silt scraping the entire water supply. This common phenomenon need to be seriously looked into,” the Minister said while interacting with HoDs and villagers here at the Circuit House on Thursday. He suggested taking up a viable scheme and assured to work to ensure drinking water to every household.
While raising the issue of dilapidated water networking, local Legislator Karikho Kri said during his tenure he pursued to sanction rupees 24 crores for WTP at Shivajinagar due to which the entire township is getting sufficient drinking water. “But the leakage requires urgent measures to replace the old and decayed water pipelines,” he pleaded to the Minister.  The villagers from Pomaliang and Hucheliang also submitted memorandum to the Minister pleading to urgently address the water crisis in these villages. The PHED Tezu Division also highlighted the oldest water pipeline networking leading to leakage of water at various points. “The township’s oldest water network needs to be replaced and though we have sufficient water due to Water Treatment Plant (WTP) at Shivajinagar, the pressure of the water causes leakages due to old pipes which were laid during the sixties. We have made an estimate of Rs 30 crores to lay out fresh networking,” revealed EE PHED VK Malik.

Meanwhile, the minister unveiled the newly constructed SE PHED Circle Office spread over 1.5 acres of land here on Friday. He also participated in a zonal review meeting called by the department.
