Itanagar, Oct 4: Mini Secretariat at Naharlagun was declared as ‘No Tobacco Zone’ by the Director Audit & Pension, Abdul Basit in front of a mammoth gathering today.
The programme was organized by the District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC) ICC under DMO ICC establishment, attended by Director Health Services Dr Moromor Lego, Director Transport Tage Tado, EAC Naharlagun Ashok Tajo, DMO ICC Dr Mandip Perme, FAO, TO and NGOs along with staff of various departments under the Mini Secretariat. DMO informed that No Tobacco Zone is being implemented under Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003 where section 4 prohibits smoking in any public place and section 6 (a) (b) prohibits sale of cigarettes or any other tobacco products to any person who is under 18 years of age and within the radius of 100 yards from any educational institution. As per these provisions, violators can be fined or even jailed, DMO informed adding that Challan Book has been handed over to EAC for strict implementation of COTPA.
The programme ended with the unveiling of signboard by the Directors of Health Services, Audit & Pension and Transport. DIPRO
