Yingkiong, Feb 15: To commemorate the celebrations of 38th Statehood Day, Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society Yingkiong Branch in coordination with Department of Health and Family Welfare and District Police, Yingkiong organized a10 Km Mini Marathon on the theme- Run for Drug Free Society ‘Save Family, Save Nation’ on Thursday. The race was sponsored by the District Administration under Arunachal Rising Campaign, District Police and Health Department.
Deputy Commissioner Upper Siang, Hage Lailang who flagged off the race appreciated the organisers adding that the APWWS was given the responsibility to conduct the marathon because women play pivotal role in bringing about positive change in society, be it effort for drug free society or changing the mindset of people. He called upon one and all to support in making Upper Siang district drug free and a better place to live for all.
Applauding the participants for taking part in large numbers, Lailang said that marathon race symbolizes determination and endurance and triumph over adversities. He exhorted the young participants to imbibe the spirit to remain mentally and physically strong to overcome obstacles and challenges to reach any goal in life.
In order to sensitize the participants, Damini Tali, Clinical Psychologist, District De-addiction Centre, Yingkiong cum member APWWS gave orientation on drug abuse prevention and she requested the youths to refrain from using drugs out of curiosity as it is the main cause of drug addiction among youths. General Secretary APWWS Ms.Kosiang Pangkam also spoke on objective of the marathon race and says it is an effort to raise awareness among the youths to help them stay away from drugs and choose a healthy life through sports and creative activities.
More than 100 enthusiastic youths including police personnel participated in the run.
