ITANAGAR, Sep 14:      Director of Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR), NEH Region, Meghalaya, Dr N Prakash called on to the Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein in his office here today.

In their brief interactions, Mein sought the help of ICAR to strengthen the Research & Development wing of Agriculture & allied sectors in the State and to back the agreement that would be made with the CSIR-North East Institute of Science & Technology and Rain Forest Research Institute, Jorhat (Assam). He sought their support for infrastructure development of the Krishi Vigyan Kendras in the State and also to extend their support to the Farmer’s Producers Company that were recently formed and registered with the Spices Board of India. He also discussed with them how to find ways to promote marketing of agriculture produce of the farmers in order to boost their economy.

Dr Prakash informed that the ICAR will provide support for infrastructure development of KVKs in Anjaw, Namsai and Longding Districts. He also assured that the steps will be taken to boost the economy of the poorer and marginal farmers through agriculture & allied sectors.

He was accompanied by Dr H Kalita, Joint Director ICAR, NEH Region, Meghalaya and Dr Manish Kanwat, Senior Scientist & Head for KVK Anjaw, Namsai and Longding.
