TEZU, Dec 6: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein today inaugurated the renovated Agriculture Produce Market Committee Wholesale Market Complex near the NH 13 Army Camp here.
Among others, MLA Tezu/Sunpura,  Karikho Kri, DC Lohit  Prince Dhawan, SP Lohit Dr D.W.Thongon, Assistant Commissioner Tezu, Sunny Kumar Singh all HoDs, public leaders, GBs and SHGs were present. Expressing his happiness over the establishment of the market, Mein said that farmers of the region will greatly  benefit from it which is spread over 1.53 hectares. “State government is sensitive to the needs of the farmers,” DCM said lauding the efforts of District Administration for taking proactive steps in its setting. “Spacious, well planned and systematic marketing innovation is the need of the hour for a fast growing township like Tezu. Lohit & Anjaw districts have tremendous potential of growing large cardamom, oranges, ginger and many horticulture crops and seasonal vegetables. The Khasi Madarin species of Wakro once called as ‘Orange Bowl of Aruanchal’ has been getting revived which is good sign and the market of this kind will provide better platform to the farmers to sale  their produce,” Mein added. Karikho Kri extended gratitude to the DC and Agriculture and other allied departments for  making the long pending APMC market complex functional. Earlier, DCM was accorded a warm reception amidst loud cheers of a huge gathering. Later he also handed over the allotment orders to the businessmen and distributed uniforms to the shopkeepers.
The APMC Market with its various innovative features is one of the best of its kind in state. It will have a permanent Police Beat, 24x7 CCTV camera facilities & deployment of security personnel and  there are in total 92 stalls out of which 30 have been allocated to fish and meat sellers, 20 to vegetable sellers  and others to agriculture produce sellers, SHGs and Agriculture, Veterinary, Fishery and Horticulture FPOs. Volleyball court for recreational purpose of the youths of the district has also been set up inside the market complex. The produce to be sold here will be fully organic, verified and vetted by the concerned Agriculture  and allied departments for catering to quality and hygiene needs. The sellers have colour coded uniforms for their respective trades. Sanitized godown, dustbins to segregate dry and wet waste are the added attractions of the complex. 
Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) is a marketing board established by the state governments  to ensure that farmers are safeguarded from exploitation by large retailers, as well to ensure that retail prices do not reach excessive high levels. DCM Media Cell
