ITANAGAR, Mar 8: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who is personally taking up the mission to eradicate the drug menace from the state called to wage a war against drug addictions with an objective of healthy Arunachal for healthy India. He made this call while attending the State Level Co-ordination Committee Meeting on Drug Abuse here on Wednesday. He further called for zero tolerance to drug addictions and pitched for formulation of comprehensive action plan to deal with the menace.

 Chief Secretary, Satya Gopal who presided over the meeting supported the call of the Deputy Chief Minister saying that initiative from his end will save the future generation. He also called for strict action against the drug peddler and those found involve in such illegal activities to be booked under stringent NDPS Act. He instructed all the link departments like narcotic cell, Police and social justice to work in well coordination. He also warned of strong action against the Govt officials if found involve in drug addictions and related activities. He further said not to allow forest plantation areas as field for growing poppy cultivation and said to held the concerned authorities responsible for it, if found.

 Secretary Home, G S Meena elaborated on legal farming as adopted in the other state of India and other models of Alternative livelihood development programme in the world.

Secretary Horticulture, Mimum Tayeng explained in detail about the action being taken up by Horticulture Department for alternative livelihood Development against Opium cultivation.

State Nodal Officer, Narcotic Cell, Oli Koyu presented the main comprehensive state action plan to mitigate the drugs menace to the state level committee to discuss and formulate the comprehensive action plans against the drug’s menace which is taken the shape of epidemic. The state nodal officer narcotic presents a power point presentation and elaborated the details in related drug’s abuse and its methodology to tackle and control it. He presented in details on present status control, preventive and zero tolerance as per NDPS Act, rehabilitation process, supply and demand reduction, alternative livelihood system and holistic approaches of awareness.

 Committee further stressed on formulation of state level co-ordination committee within the link deptt and for development of comprehensive narcotics plan to deal with the drug addict, peddlers, middle men, traffickers, mafia, harbouring, land owner and growers and also to form narcotics control bureau for affective administration of drugs enforcement.

Commissioner (Tax & Excise), Marnya Ete, IGP (ITBP), Zonal Director, NCB Guwahati, DCs & SPs of affected districts among many others also attended the meeting and put forward their suggestions to tackle the growing menace.
