Tawang, Jul 26: The District Level Monitoring Committee Meeting for implementation of Solid Waste Management Rules & Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016 and compliance of relevant NGT orders was held today here at the DC Conference Hall under the chairmanship of PD DRDA & DC I/c Lobsang Tsetan.
Executive Engineer Urban Development Tawang VP Singh informed about Solid Waste Management & Plastic Waste Management Rules and sought cooperation from all members and stakeholders for their proper implementation. Assistant Engineer, Urban Development Department Tawang, Phurpa Lhamu through a Power Point Presentation gave the details of actions taken and informed that segregation of dry and wet waste at source has been made mandatory w.e.f June 24, 2019. It was further informed that the department has introduced bio-degradable plastic garbage bags of 50 microns and above in various colours for collection of dry and wet waste and a compost pit for dumping of wet waste at garbage dumping site has been constructed. A Swachh Machine/ Garbage Destruction Machine of 500 kg per day capacity for processing/burning of dry waste has also been purchased .
After discussion and inputs from the members, it was decided that social service will be continued on every second and fourth Friday of each month. President of the NGO, Environmental Protection Society(EPS) Jambey Dondu requested the district administration to form a flying squad to check illegal use of polythene bags by the shopkeepers. DIPRO
