PASIGHAT, Feb 6: “The Media plays an indispensable role in electoral management, sensitizing and educating the people on how to exercise their democratic rights, provide a platform for the political parties and candidates to communicate their message to the electorates and also keep vigil on law and order situation in the district for free and fair election,” stated the East Siang DEO Tayi Taggu on Monday evening during a media briefing in his office chamber. As the state was approaching simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, he solicited active cooperation of journalists and media groups in ensuring that this milestone in history of India’s democracy becomes what we jointly wish it to be –free, fair, peaceful, transparent and participative. Admitting the immense capacity of the media, he expressed hope that there will be no scope for complaint and media fraternity would abide by the guidelines framed by the competent authority.
During the hour-long interactive session, the DEO briefed the media-persons about booth level SVEEP activities and threw light on appointment and training of sector officers, restrictions of illegal liquor, meeting with political parties’ representatives, maintenance of law and order etc including requisition and training of polling officials and police personnel. He also cleared all doubts raised by media fraternity.
