PASIGHAT, Dec 7: Matru Marathon under PMMVY was flagged off today by East Siang Deputy Commissioner Dr. Kinny Singh here at the DEM Higher Secondary School field.
A number of participants including school children, ICDS functionaries, SHGs and officers participated in the run for the first-time mothers with the theme ‘Towards Building a Healthy Nation-Surakshit Janani, Viksit Dharini’. After the marathon a sensitization meeting was organized by the DD (ICDS) PE Angu which was attended by SDO (Sadar) Oli Perme, EAC Nancy Yirang, CO Pebika Lego and others. Deputy Director (ICDS) sensitized the participants on the benefits, eligibility and conditions under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), conditional cash transfer, maternity benefit scheme etc. Principal of DEM HSS Apel Tayeng urged the participants to spread the awareness message among their families, friends and neighbours. A recipient (first-time mother) of PMMVY also shared her experience about how she received all three instalments by completing all conditions under the scheme, which also included Rs.1000 she received at the hospital under Janani Suraksha Yojana, a scheme for mothers for institutional delivery.
Earlier on December 2 last, Matru Vandana Saptah event was kicked off at Jarku Community Hall by CWC member Korunath Pazing. DIPRO
