ITANAGAR, Jun 26: Claiming that Maro-Baririjo road under Dumporijo Circle of Upper Subansiri district remained blocked for over 5 days due to a landslide at Leriak Point causing numerous hardships to the commuters, the Galo Students’ Union (GSU) on Wednesday appealed the department concerned to immediately clear the road.
“This is the fourth time within this month that same stretch of road is blocked due to landslides triggered by heavy downpour,” the Union said adding that the local people of area cleared the road on self help basis on several occasions without any involvement of the concerned authorities.
Alleging that the department concerned is not taking any corrective measures despite being reported to them several times, the Union lamented that due to frequent road blockade traffic movements are also stalled.
General public are facing lots of problems in transportation of essential commodities, the Union claimed and adding that even during medical emergencies people cannot move from the area.
The Union also appealed the local MLA to instruct the concerned department to immediately restore the road. Failing to restore the road will invite democratic movement from the people of area against the concerned department, it added. Newsdesk
