ITANAGAR, Apr 19: A man on Sunday alleged that he was thrashed by cops deputed on Naka duty in Naharlagun while on his way to get distilled water for his scooter battery.
According to the victim who showed this reporter multiple injuries sustained on his lower backside, claimed that he ventured out to get the distilled water because he was informed by someone that the garages open around 9:00 am. Things went fine till he reached the police barricade near Chandni hotel. "I stepped out from my vehicle after baton-wielding cops stopped me and despite all my attempts to convince them about the purpose of my visit, they started accusing me of trying to run away," he lamented. The police then brought the man to the Police station and thrashed him before letting him go.
In a different version of the story shared with SP Tumme Amo, SDPO, Naharlagun Rike Kamsi has refuted the allegations. When contacted, SP said that when he asked the SDPO about the incident the officer clarified that police had to bring the alleged victim to the police station after he tried to breach the barricade and created ruckus. SDPO also clarified that the police personnel on duty did not find the explanation given by the person satisfactory and after confiscation of his scooter, the man started abusing the on-duty police personnel.
"He was taken to the PS as he did not stop from creating nuisances and to tame him we had to use force, " SDPO explained to the SP.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Naharlagun PS against the person for violating the lockdown rules.
