DIRANG, Jan 18: Tagyung Yangfo, the main accused in the killing of Deputy Superintendent of Police, late Bomto Kamdak at Seppa and carrying a bounty of 5 lakhs on his head, was killed in an encounter at Dirang, Police said on Saturday.
The operation was carried out by a team of SIT, PHQ Itanagar comprising of SP (SIT) Dr. Navdeep Singh Brar, IPS, and Inspector T Bage, Inspector Ashok Taying, SI Wangsu and others. A 12 bore gun and gun making material was recovered from Rama Camp area where the accused was hiding.
In a press briefing at PHQ, IPS, SP, Papumpare, Jimmy Chiram said that “We received information about Yangfo’s presence along with his wife from reliable sources in the Dirang area in West Kameng district. Accordingly, an SIT team was constituted who raided Khamkhar Nala in Dirang around 8:30 am where the duo was taking refuge on Saturday morning and succeeded in killing the wanted criminal,” the SP told.
The SP said that during the raid, the police found Yangfo's wife present at his hideout in the Rama Camp area and on further search tracked the accused location who was at Khamkar Nala nearby.
“When asked to surrender before police, Yangfo drew his pistol and started firing, a stray bullet also hit the BP jacket of SP (SIT) who was leading the team. The Police had to opened fire too in self-defence,” Chiram told.
The SP said that the accused was later chased down and during the exchange of fire the accused got injured and was taken to hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The deceased had multiple cases registered against him including the killing of late DySP Bomto Kamdak in 2016 near Wada Camp, East Kameng District.
Tagyung Yangfo was a notorious criminal who was involved in activities like extortion, robbery, murder kidnapping, etc. Multiple cases were registered against Tagyung Yangfo and was wanted under Chayangtajo PS FIR no 5/2016 u/s 302, 333, 212, 216/34 IPC r/w 27 Arms Act.
As per the guidelines of NHRC, a magisterial enquiry into the matter has been ordered by the Deputy Commissioner cum District Magistrate this morning.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police, Bomdila had directed the DMO Bomdila for constitution of a Medical Board for post mortem to be fully video graphed. Further, directions had also been issued for preservation of the handwork of the accused for forensic examination. With PHQ/DIPRO inputs
