DEOMALI, Jan 6: A major fire accident which broke out at Deomali under Tirap District in the wee hours around 3.30am this morning claimed one life and razed at least six shops.
The victim has been identified as Ashim Ghosh, 45 who was charred to death in the mishap. The cause of the fire accident is reported to be due to a suspected electric short circuit. On receiving information, EACs Akan Reagon and Tana Bapu rushed to the spot immediately and with the help of civilians, Police, Army Artillery Unit Deomali led by Capt Suresh Tripathi helped to douse the fire.
Minister for PHE&WS and DoTCL etc, Wangki Lowang also rushed to the fire victims and rendered financial help as immediate relief of rupees One lakh to three traders, rupees Fifty thousand to two small shop owners and rupees twenty thousand for damages to a salon.
Later Tirap Deputy Commissioner PN Thungon, DDMO and IPR staff also rushed to the spot and extended immediate relief of blankets and utensils and also cash of Rs. 5,000 each to all the fire victims.

The DC extolled public especially Bazaar committee and NGOs to be vigilant in the dry winter season prone to fire accidents.

Principal Maharaj RKMS Narottamnagar and his team also rushed the spot and assured to help CGI Sheets and Cash amount Rs. 3,000 each to all fire victims.
Further Chief Minister Pema Khandu also announced Rs. 50,000 each to all the fire victims. In consultation with SP Tirap, JK Meena, it has been decided to provide one fire brigade to be stationed at Deomali.
It is worth mentioning that the fire brigade arrived at the spot around 8.55am by which time the fire was already doused.
