RUPA, Dec 3: On the heels of 10th Tawang Maitree Diwas, the first ever West Kameng Maitree Diwas was organized by Indian Army and Rupa Administration at Asu Gyaptong Stadium, Rupa.
Soon after a joint decision was taken by CM Pema Khandu and the Gajraj Corps Commander, the necessary preparations were made on war footing giving shape to the long awaited dream of the locals.
The proceedings, organized under guidance of Major General RK Jha, GOC,  Ball of Fire Division,  were chaired by the Minister  of Agriculture and Sports, Dr Mohesh Chai and Lt Gen GS Sangha, the Corps Commander. The Minister moved at a short notice as a special representative of the Chief Minister, who could not make it for the event. 
In four hours of jam-packed performance, the Army as well as civil artists put up a splendid display of military skills and cultural extravaganza. On the sidelines of the event,  a bicycle expedition under aegis of National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports was flagged off from Rupa to Bumla.
In his address, the Chief Guest appreciated the superior performances by all the military and Civil participants. He assured on behalf of the CM, to make the West Kameng Maitree Diwas as an annual event, marking the strong Civil-Military relationship in the district.
Dr. Chai said that Army and Civil populace are members of one large family and minor misunderstanding and incidents are signs of belongingness from same family, therefore, one should overlook such things for a greater cause. He conveyed the goodwill message of the Chief Minister on the occasion of the historic event.
Addressing the crowd Lt Gen GS Sangha thanked the Governor of Arunachal and CM for the noble initiative. He pointed out that the preparation for the event was made possible within a very short period and this indicated that if Army and Civil work together for a good cause can create history.
Speaking on the occasion the Deputy Commissioner of West Kameng district Dr. Sonal Swaroop hailed the noble idea of organizing “Maitree Diwas” and referred to the recently held “Army Recruitment Rally” organized at Rupa, which was considered to be one of the most successful rallies in entire North-East. She stressed on the importance of cordial relationship between civil and army, and appreciated the local administration of Rupa headed by ADC Suraj Gurung for successful coordination in all fronts.
Amongst the other dignitaries present were Chief of Staff,  Tezpur Corps, IG Police, Sunil Garg and other senior Military  and Civil administration officials.
