ITANAGAR, Apr 21: Deputy Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Tesam Pongte on Tuesday attended the video conferencing of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla with the Speakers of all States and UTs to discuss on the Covid-19 pandemic preventive measures.
Deputy Speaker while taking part in the discussion extended thankfulness to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the nationwide lockdown and other steps taken to contain the pandemic. He informed that Arunachal Pradesh, with unwavering and dedicated efforts by the frontline workers, is now free of any positive Covid-19 case after recovery of the state’s lone positive patient. He also briefed the Lok Sabha Speaker about the containment activities taken up by the state government.
Lok Sabha Speaker while addressing the video conferencing, highlighted how the legislators can contribute in fighting the pandemic both virtually and physically. He called upon the Speakers to create awareness on Covid-19 and its prevention through the MLAs and stressed on collective efforts. Emphasizing the role of MLAs in this regard, Birla exhorted every MLA to remain in their respective constituency and monitor the situation with help of administration and forward the reports, if any, to the control room to be established in every Assembly Secretariat for further course of action.
“MLAs must play a proactive role in their respective constituencies to prevent the virus spread and they should encourage people to follow the lockdown and promote social distancing,” he said, while urging everyone to download the Aarogya Setu App in their mobile phones. Lok Sabha Speaker further hailed the Kerala model of the Covid-19 fightback and congratulated Goa and Arunachal Pradesh for successfully making their  states free of coronavirus.  
Meanwhile, the State Legislative Assembly Covid-19 Control Room will be set up soon to look, monitor, felicitate and liaise with the pandemic related issues with the Centre’s Parliament Covid-19 Control Room and other State Legislative Control Rooms.
