DAMIN, Apr 17: Like every year the prestigious festival of Nyishi community ‘Longte’ was celebrated with much fanfare and traditional gaiety here at remote Damin circle under Kurung Kumey district   on Saturday last.  ZPC Kurung Kumey, Sangha Tagik and Joint Director, Department of Rural Development , Cheera Sanjeev attended the celebration as guest of honour and special guest respectively.

Hundreds of people including children in full traditional attire participated in the festival.

Extending greetings, ZPC Sangha Tagik appreciated the denizens for conserving their age old tradition and culture. He also stressed on the importance of education in society. ‘For all round development in our society we have to educate our children, without education in the digital world we won’t be able to develop our society,’ he added. ‘Youths are the backbone of society and you should bring laurels to society by achieving your goals, ’ encouraged  the ZPC  while appealing  the youths to concentrate of  their studies and to shun any kind of anti-social activities .

Beside regular Longte rituals, various cultural performances, tradition sports were also held.Among others, former ZPM Koloriang, Bengia Hashi and ZPM Damin circle Lokam Pabi also participated in the festival.
