Itanagar, Nov 7: Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar today called a meeting here at the CS Conference Hall of Civil Secretariat to discuss the ways and means of tapping the state’s agri-horti potential and for adoption of a comprehensive model developed by Lohit District Administration in the field of agriculture and allied sectors.
The meeting was attended by Secretary, Agriculture & Horticulture Bidol Tayeng, Secretary, Planning Himanshu Gupta, Secretary, AH & VS Mimum Tayeng, NABARD General Manager Dr. G.K. Nair, Spice Board representatives, Directors and officers of Agriculture, Horticulture, AH & VS Departments, representative from APEDA, and Deputy Commissioners of Lohit, West Kameng, East Kameng, Lower Dibang Valley and West Siang districts.
Citing the model of Lohit district as an example, Chief Secretary emphasized on pursuing a revolutionary development in line of Green Revolution and White Revolution in the state in order to enhance growth and development of agriculture, horticulture and allied sectors. Lohit DA has established Lohit Agricultural Farmer Producer Organization, a cooperative society of farmers who are responsible to sell the agriculture and horticulture products of the district’s farmers which are basically naturally grown and organic comprising of Lohit rice, green tea, large cardamom, cinnamon, oranges, turmeric etc. They have also created an online market at www.lohitfarmers.org with e-payment facilities. This has created huge opportunities for the local farmer-entrepreneurs for income generation and has also contributed to rural prosperity by giving them a market to sell their produce. Considering the vast land resource availability, favourable agri-horti climatic condition, Chief Secretary identified 5 districts namely, West Kameng, East Kameng, West Siang, East Siang and Lower Dibang Valley to follow the similar concept developed by Lohit with the objective of better income generation and market access to the farmers with required district-wise customization and modification. He also sought support from the Spice Board, NABARD and APEDA to enhance growth and development of agriculture, horticulture and allied sectors in the state. PRO CS
