TEZU, Sep 16: The residents of Tilongkiong and Khatan villages as well as Tumba and peripheral pocket of Medo and the tea growers and business communities of Chowkham have extended gratitude to Lohit police of Wakro circle and Madras Regiment Chowkham for their effort in nabbing the self-styled Major Kalinjoy Chakma and his associates of the outlawed Eastern Naga National Government (ENNG).
Major Kalinjoy was ‘most wanted’ in several cases of extortion, arson and robbery registered under Wakro PS. It is worth mentioning that since 2017, villagers had suffered atrocities related to the killings of mithun, land encroachment, malicious acts of burning houses, demands of ransom etc. Lohit Police under the active supervision of SP DW Thungon and Army launched a massive combing operation at Khatan (situated adjoining Changlang border), Tilong Kiong and the peripheral areas which resulted in the arrest early this month.
“We salute their act of valour but the problem does not end here. Government should set up police outpost, deploy more security personnel and create CO circle at Khatan to ensure lasting peace in the area”, villagers urged.
