MENGIO, Dec 4: In an exemplary move, the villagers of Jajing Tapo under Mengio Circle, Papum Pare district have imposed a total ban on alcohol products under its jurisdiction and declared it as a Dry village in the interest of the health of the people.
The decision was taken in a programme organized as a part of silver jubilee celebration of Jajing Tapo Baptist Church under the aegis of Nyishi Baptist Church Council (NBCC).
To mark the new beginning, eight bags of processed Marijuana was burned down by a team led by APCC General Secretary Gyamar Tana which was followed by drug eradication exercise wherein cultivated cannabis in more than 27 fields was completely destroyed.
More than hundreds of local residents voted in favour of the campaign and pledged not to encourage cultivation of cannabis and selling of alcohol.
