ITANAGAR, Dec 15: First ever Arunachal local cuisine competition was held at State Food Craft Institute here where 12  participants consisting of housewives, unemployed youth, government employees and food enthusiasts  took part. The event was organized by the Department of Tourism with the motto of showcasing local delicacies and encouraging innovative use of local products.
The participants cooked and roasted their items in front of the judges and had to complete their dishes within a specific time. They cooked famous delicacies of different tribes like Galo, Monpa, Khamti, Nyishi, Adi, etc. but with a twist of their own creativity.
Takar Shikar, a former HSRT trainee, whose brainchild was the whole concept, expressed his gratitude to the government for allowing a unique event to be organized.

The faculty members and staff of SFCI supervised the whole event. The food items were judged by a panel consisting of eminent personalities of hospitality industry and tourism officials. The winners have been selected on the basis of presentation, innovation, taste and creativity.

Assistant Director, Tourism, Bengia Manna Sonam highlighted the importance of promoting local cuisine and informed the participants that she will request the department to make the ‘Local Cuisine Competition’ an annual event and also organize local food festival on the sidelines for  visiting tourists.
The winners of the competition were Teri Yajo, Rinchin Sopung and Rumik Rupa as 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. A special consolation prize was given to Yangfo Tayang, the lone male participant.
