Roing, Feb 12: In order to pay homage to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary and inspired by the success achieved during last two years, a holistic and comprehensive campaign titled ‘Sparsh Leprosy Elimination Campaign’ (SLEC), was kicked off on January 30 last by the District Leprosy Control Society (DLCS) with support of district administration, Lower Dibang Valley.
Its objectives included creating awareness, identifying and bringing leprosy patients under treatment. Under the fortnight programme, the DLCS and its team dedicatedly worked together to detect leprosy patients, stop transmission of the disease in the community and reduce the disabilities by detecting cases at early stage.

“Leprosy is easy to detect and is curable. Leprosy becomes a stigma with discrimination against person affected from Leprosy in society. During our fortnight campaign we educated the people to refrain from discrimination. We are putting all possible efforts to make a leprosy free district,” SMO Dr Saga Migri said.

The campaign from January 30 to February 13 will cover various villages under Dambuk sub – division and Roing division where students, former PRI members, gaon burahs and villagers also participated.
