NAMSAI, May 25: The Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) organized a One Day Mega Legal Awareness Programme in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA) of Namsai and Lohit, along with the District Administration of Namsai and Lohit. The event was held under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).
The programme was attended by Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai, Judge of the Supreme Court of India, who served as the Chief Guest. The event also featured Justice Vijay Bishnoi, Chief Justice of the Guwahati High Court and Patron-in-Chief of the Arunachal Pradesh SLSA, and Justice Suman Shyam, Judge of the Guwahati High Court and Executive Chairman of the Arunachal Pradesh SLSA.
Advocate Bulia Pulu, Panel Lawyer of DLSA Lower Dibang Valley, Roing, provided an overview of the role and functions of Legal Services Institutions. He highlighted the availability of free and competent legal services through the Mobile App, the NALSA helpline number, the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the Arunachal Pradesh Recording of Marriage Act, 2008.
In the technical session, Advocate M.S. Deori, Retainer Lawyer of DLSA, Namsai, discussed the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, the Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme, 2011, and various government welfare schemes. He emphasized the importance of these legal provisions in safeguarding the rights and welfare of children and victims.
The programme aimed to enhance legal awareness among the public and promote the utilization of legal services. It also sought to educate participants on their legal rights and the various schemes available for their benefit. The event was a significant step towards empowering the citizens of Arunachal Pradesh with legal knowledge and access to justice.
