Namsai, Jul 28: Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority(APSLSA) conducted the 2nd Legal Aid Clinic here at ADR Centre Building, Mini Secretariat Complex on July 27 which was part of its continuing efforts to bring legal aid to all sections of society particularly in districts where people are less aware of such schemes.
The initiative was supported by the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, GoI under Access to Justice for NE & J&K Project, attended by Member Secretary, APSLSA Budi Habung, Deputy Commissioner, Namsai Dr Tapasya Raghav, Superintendent of Police Ankit Singh, members of Namsai Bar Association, representatives of APWWS, Namsai Branch, various NGOs & women groups from adjoining areas, staff from various departments and general public.
Habung stated that the main objective of the legal aid clinic was to ensure access to justice to all in consonance with the provisions laid down in the Constitution of India and the Legal Services Authority Act by providing free legal aid and services to the poor and needy people who cannot afford to engage advocates on their own due to economic and other disabilities. He gave detailed information about the services offered, role and responsibilities of the Legal Services Authority, working of Legal Aid Clinic, role of advocates and paralegal volunteers etc and shared information on a range of other issues like Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme, benefits of settlement of civil and petty criminal cases through Lok Adalats and various NALSA schemes.
Altogether over 60 persons participated in the programme. APSLSA has established 24 Legal Aid Clinics at different districts under various schemes. SP, Circle Officer, JMFC cum Secretary, DLSA Namsai and Legal Aid Counsel also spoke on the occasion. APSLSA PR
