Roing, Sep 25: A lake ranching programme was conducted today at Sally Lake in which ZPC Tony Borang released 20,000 fish fingerlings into the lake. The programme conducted by Department of Fisheries also witnessed a total of 50,000 numbers of fingerlings (Fish seeds) stocked into the government farm ponds.
The main objective of the programme is to achieve sustainable fisheries reducing habitat degradation, conserving biodiversity and to uplift the depleted fish stock. 
Zilla Parishad Chairperson Tony Borang expressed that awareness of such programme is necessary among the growing generation of youth in order to conserve the rich resources in terms of fishery and tourism in the district. He also encouraged aquaculture practices and asserted that the district has great potential in terms of pisciculture which could improve livelihood and also help to tackle unemployment.
District Fishery Dev. Officer Tadar Mama briefed about the main motives of lake ranching. He informed that the department has released fingerlings into Sally Lake to meet up the required stocking density of the lake every monsoon. He also expressed concerned over illegal fishing in the lake and suggested the need for awareness of such programme on conservation.
Fishery Officer Neriyang Jamoh said that Sally Lake is the “Hotspot of Mahseer” in the district and therefore the lake requires maintenance and guarding against poaching.
