ITANAGAR, Oct 3: In the run-up to the bye-election of the 56-Khonsa West AC, all the four nominations that were submitted had been found valid.
This was informed by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Arunachal Pradesh today through a press release. Scrutiny of nominations was done on October 1 and all the candidates filed their nominations as Independent contestants. Last date of withdrawal of candidature was on October 3 and the electioneering process has already come into effect on and from September 23 with the issue of Gazette Notification. Finally, after the date for withdrawal of candidature, there are now 2 candidates, namely, Chakat Aboh, IND and Azet Homtok, IND in the fray as the other two candidates, Yumsem Matey and Wangchu Lowang, both IND had withdrawn their candidatures.
The constituency will have 23 polling stations and the total number of voters are 10,186 (Male - 4960 , Female - 5226). Considering the sensitivity of the constituency, all precautionary arrangements have been made to prevent any untoward incident and adequate security will be provided to the contesting candidates. Election Commission of India has deployed Monoranjan Dutta, IAS as General Observer and Parneet Singh, IDAS as Expenditure Observer to oversee the poll process. If any violation of the Model Code of Conduct is noticed, the same may be brought to the notice of the ECI Observers immediately. District Administration has also made elaborate arrangements for smooth conduct of the bye-election and First Level Checking of Electronic Voting Machines has already been done. A total of 115 polling personnel will be deployed to conduct the poll and necessary training in this regard has been scheduled in this week. Nodal Officers have been appointed to coordinate various subject matters. State level meeting with all political parties was also held on September 25 last at CEO's Office and cooperation from all had been sought by the ECI for conducting the bye-election peacefully.
ECI has further requested all the voters of the constituency to cooperate with the District Administration and the polling personnel for peaceful conduct of the bye-election. State ECO PR
