ITANAGAR, Nov 5: Chief Minister Pema Khandu today inaugurated the Indigenous Tribal Research & Studies Centre in presence of UD Minister Nabam Rebia and other dignitaries here at Nyedar Namlo in Doimukh.  

The Chief Minister inspected the newly constructed building of the centre and offered prayer to the deities. 

Later addressing a gathering organized by Nyishi Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society (NIFCS), Khandu assured Rs 1 crore for finishing works for the centre. He also assured a corpus fund for the institute and asked the NIFCS to submit an estimate. Through his personal means, Chief Minister donated Rs 10 lakhs for the institute.  

Khandu expressed hope that the centre will prove helpful in documenting and preservation of indigenous culture. He said foreign tourists come to Arunachal to see the indigenous culture and therefore appealed for its preservation. He said Arunachal is becoming a hot tourist destination for its rich cultural heritage. He said the state has registered 10% increase each year in number of tourist inflow.  

On creation of Department of Indigenous Affairs (DIA), Khandu said he has asked the Chief Secretary for its immediate functioning. He said it will be an independent department with creation of Secretary and Director posts. 

Earlier, UD Minister in his speech fervently appealed the indigenous people of the state to be strongly rooted in their culture. 

 President NIFCS Pai Dawe also spoke on the occasion.  

On the occasion a colorful cultural dances were presented. The function ended with a prayer.  

The function was attended by CNN President Nabam Atum, former legislators Atum Welly, Lokam Tasar, Papumpare DC Tai Kaye, SP Tumme Amo and other officials.
