ITANAGAR, Dec 8: Chief Minister Pema Khandu and his Assam counterpart Sarbananda Sonowal will jointly unveil the statue of legendary artist Dr. Bhupen Hazarika at Bolung, Lower Dibang Valley on December 15 next, informed President, Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society YD Thongchi here today.
Addressing the media, Thongchi informed that the 10.6 feet statue also called the “Statue of Brotherhood” has been erected at Bolung as the place is claimed to be the birthplace of Late Hazarika during NEFA (Sadiya) days.
‘His contributions are ever to be remembered by the people of Arunachal Pradesh, he had very close relation with Arunachal and its people and the statue will be a symbol of brotherhood between the two states as well as tribute to the legendary artist,’ stated President APLS while extending gratitude to the family of Gora Pertin for donating the land for the statue and Museum.
While elaborating more on the statue, General Secretary APLS cum Directorate of Research, Batem Pertin divulged that APLS proposed for erecting the statue to the then Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, who accepted the proposal and announced Rs 30lakh during the APLS Foundation Day celebration 2014. However, the announcement became reality with the allocation of 30.00 lakhs(Rupees thirty lakhs) only in AOP (SADA) 2015-16.
Meanwhile, Pertin added ‘the statue will certainly boost and strengthen the unity, harmony, bond of friendship and brotherhood among the peace loving people of the two states.’
