ITANAGAR, Sep 26: In the run-up to the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) today participated in ‘Swachhata Hi Seva Hai’ programme on ‘Single Use Plastic Free India’ here at Raj Bhavan.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor said that Swachh Bharat Abhiyan or cleanliness mission is meant for the welfare of the people, society and the nation and emphasised on changing the mindset of the people towards cleanliness. Keeping the surroundings clean is not the duty of the municipal workers alone, but also of every citizen of the state, he said, urging the students and youths to motivate their friends, peers, parents and relatives for cleanliness. On the occasion, he released a documentaryconceptualised by the First Lady of the State, Neelam Mishratitled ‘Swachh Bharat Initiative at Raj Bhavan’. First Lady also felicitated the employees of Raj Bhavan who have contributed Shramdaan towards Swachh Bharat Mission with cloth bags and cash awards and distributed jute bags sponsored by Urban Development Department.
Earlier, State Nodal Officer, Swachh Bharat Mission J. Basarbriefed on the programme and Chief Minister Fellow Rinchui Raman & Assistant Professor, Law College, Jote Chujip Khoinya presented Power Point Presentations on ‘Hazards of Plastic and e-waste’. A documentary film on ‘Swacchta Hi Seva Hai’ campaign in Arunachal produced by Urban Development Department was screened on the occasion. Later, a demonstration on waste segregation procedure was conducted by the officials of the Itanagar Municipal Council and members of Self Help Groups.
