ITANAGAR, Mar 23:State level Kayakalp Award for various categories of health facilities of the State was declared in a simple ceremony graced by Special Secretary (H&FW) cum Mission Director, NHM, Dr Tapasya Raghav and Director Family Welfare, Dr Kabang Lego in presence of various officers of Department of Health Services & Family Welfare alongwith Medical Superintendent representatives and Medical Officer In-charge of award winning health facilities today at Naharlagun.

District Hospital, Tawang, was adjudged as the best Kayakalp District Hospital of the State and was conferred with a citation alongwith cash prize of Rs 50 lakhs. Community Health Centre (CHC), Kimin, Papum Pare District was adjudged as the best Kayakalp CHC of the State and was conferred with a citation alongwith a cash prize of Rs 15 lakhs. CHC Rupa, West Kameng District was awarded with Commendation Award under CHC category, wherein citation alongwith a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh conferred.

Other Health Facilities eligible for Kayakalp Award are Primary Health Centre (PHC) Pania of Kra Daadi District, PHC Sinchung, West Kameng District, PHC Bordurai, Tirap District, PHC Bilat, East Siang District and PHC Lhou, Tawang District. The Kayakalp Award Ceremony for these Health Facilities shall be held at respective District Headquarters, wherein the winning PHCs shall be conferred with a citation and cash award of Rs 2 lakhs.

Dr Tapasya Raghav while congratulating the staffers of all the award winning Health Facilities, gave a clarion call to all the line-staffers to continue their good-work and to maintain and further excel the quality of health services not only in the chosen criteria for Kayakalp Award but also in those criteria of National Quality Assurance Standard (NQAS) Certification Award. She urged staffers of rest of the Health Facilities to develop healthy competitive attitude to win the Kayakalp Award and improve the quality of Health Services of the State to next level.

Dr Kabang Lego, while extending his heart-felt appreciation to the winners of the Kayakalp Award, reminded the Health Care Providers of the objective of instituting Kayakalp Award which are—to promote cleanliness, hygiene and Infection Control Practices in Public Health Care Facilities, to incentivize and recognize such public Health Facilities that show exemplary performance in adhering to standard protocols of cleanliness and Infection Control, to inculcate a culture of ongoing assessment and peer review of performance related to hygiene, cleanliness and sanitation and to create and share sustainable practices related to improved cleanliness in public health facilities linked to positive health outcomes. 

In his address Joint Director, Department of Family Welfare cum Nodal Officer for Kayakalp, Dr S Bhattacharjee, informed that Kayakalp Award, an initiative under Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, which was launched by PM Narendra Modi, on 2nd October 2014.

Under this various categories of Health Facilities with overall highest quality services are adjudged based on several parameters. He also highlighted in detail the selection criteria and processes of Health Facilities for this award.
