ITANAGAR, Jul 3: The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) Ltd. commenced commercial production of electricity in the 150 MW Unit-2 of 600 MW Kameng HEP in West Kameng district from Friday following a successful trial run on June 29 last which demonstrated the plant’s peaking capability in respect to its installed capacity.
With this, 300 MW (2 units) of the plant has been commissioned which will promote desired changes in the energy mix of the country. The Kameng HEP is a run-of-the-river hydroelectric scheme where regulated water from Bichom (5.72 MCM live storage) reservoir and Tenga reservoir (0.17 MCM live storage) is conveyed by a 14.5 km long water conductor system to drive the vertical shaft Francis Turbines of the four units, each having 150 MW capacity.
NEEPCO has reiterated its commitment to harness the vast power potential of the Northeast and provide uninterrupted power supply to the region despite various operational hurdles such as remoteness and the current situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. NEEPCO PR
