ITANAGAR, Feb 2: A Cycling Meet cum Joy Ride, the first of its kind in the state capital was organized today by the Cycling Club of Itanagar.
The ride covered a stretch of highway from the Yupia junction to the Itanagar Monastery with the aim to promote cycling in the state capital in addition to spreading awareness on environmental and health benefits of cycling. "Cycling is regarded globally as one of the best mode of physical exercise and at the same time it is eco-friendly and generates zero pollution, " the press release stated. Founder of the meet Pei Ijum Gadi said that the objective is to promote cycling and encourage the young cyclists to spread awareness on environmental and health benefits of cycling. He also announced that one cycling event of national standard would be conducted annually.
Gadi appealed every Capital denizens to join the club and participate in the joy ride which will be organised on the first Sunday of every month and also requested every parent to start gifting their children with a cycle instead of smartphones and join their movement in making Itanagar a Healthy Cycling City.
