Roing, Nov 4: The Joy of Reading Festival  Roing 2019, celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and focusing on 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao', was inaugurated today by eminent educationist Prof. Vimala Ramachandran in the presence of DC Mitali Namchoom,heads of departments, teachers and students. 
The Joy of Reading Festival has been sponsored by Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti, GoI and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme, Lower Dibang Valley. This edition of the festival has publishers like NBT (India), Tulika (Chennai), TERI Books (New Delhi), Eklavya (Bhopal), Sri Ramakrishna Math (Chennai), Scholastic (India), Dimdima (Mumbai), After School (Delhi), CEE  (Ahmedabad) and Kalpavriksha (Pune) participating in the book fair.
Dr. Vimala Ramachandran, addressing the students, stressed on the importance of reading as it improves concentration, increases knowledge, improves vocabulary and gives us information of all kinds as books are considered windows to the world.
One should not discriminate while reading books of any genre as reading helps in gaining knowledge which make us more sensible and wise decision makers, she added. She also mentioned about how one should read books of all communities as assimilating new ideas and thoughts and learning the practice of other communities will help us grow as a good human being.
Deputy Commissioner Mitali Namchoom, welcoming the guests present, advised all the students and teachers present to take advantage of the book exhibition and interactive programme and to inculcate the habit of reading.
S. Mundayoor, social activist and founder of the library movement informed about the inspiration for the start of the youth library network. He thanked the District Administration, the Schools and institutions and the library volunteers of handholding an idea to make it into the annual Joy of Reading Festival it is today. He also said that working unitedly we can bring about a change in children's reading habits, which in turn can bring about a new education standard in Arunachal Pradesh.

The day also saw the inauguration of a 5 day's mobile book exhibition and celebration of Beti Janmotsav of institutionally delivered September born girl children in the district. DIPRO
