PASIGHAT, Oct 23: The 53rd College Day Celebrations of Jawaharlal Nehru College titled ‘Hill Top Radiance’ was inaugurated today here at the College Ground at the Lower Campus by the Deputy Speaker of State Legislative Assembly, Tesam Pongte.
Deputy Speaker called upon the students to work hard and devote their time productively and shoulder future responsibilities to contribute to the development of the state and nation. While referring to the initiatives to promote transparency and corruption-free governance by the present government, he said that introduction of Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board will provide a level playing field for all aspirants, where hard work and merit will be the only deciding criteria for success. Government has also sanctioned fund for construction of additional boys and girls hostels in JNC, Deputy Speaker added and highlighted the importance of the annual event.
 Local MLA, Kaling Moyong in his address also laid importance on merit-based performance besides adding that state government is working on infrastructural upgradation, particularly hostel facilities, water & power supply and good road connectivity. He also urged the students to explore scopes in tourism sector and take inspiration from the state’s success stories.
 Earlier, JNC Principal, Dr. Milorai Modi highlighted that the oldest college of the state has now a student strength of 3700 in both UG & PG  with 74 faculty members and has introduced BA Sociology from this academic year and MA English will begin from next academic session along with inclusion of courses like sales management. Earlier, General Secretary, JNC T.Mize submitted a memorandum for fund provision for construction of Main Entrance Gate for the Upper Campus.
Houses are named after luminaries of the state viz. Lummer Dai, Daying Ering, Tomo Riba and Bakin Pertin, while the Olympic torch was carried by College Marathon winner Kaling Tatin. Track & field events were also held today. Mega dance, march past by NCC, NSS, Rovers & Rangers and House contingents were highlights of the inaugural ceremony. The three-day event will culminate on October 25 with various cultural, literary and sports events. DIPRO
