ITANAGAR, Mar 16: In a major development, All India Mahila Congress Committee General Secretary (AIMCC), Jarjum Ete, has resigned from the primary membership of the Congress.
Ete’s resignation comes following an announcement made by AICC President Rahul Gandhi to make it compulsory for all the former chief ministers of the State to contest the Lok Sabha election.
As per sources, Ete was miffed over ticket distributing system of the party against candidate for Arunachal West Parliamentary constituency of which she is a contender.
“I am a serious contender for the party ticket with a vision for the state. Therefore, I think it would be better for all concerned that I resign from my primary membership of the Indian National Congress under Rahul Gandhi ji in whose leadership I had reposed my faith,” she wrote in her resignation letter addressed to president APCC Takam Sanjoy.
Ete has been a social activist for more than 30 years, especially working for women empowerment and children rights.
Speaking to the media persons here today, Ete said that her resignation from the party is solely to contest the election as such she has no hard feeling against the party.
However, Ete added that she hoped to get some structural support from the party this election as in 2004 and 2009 election too she was denied party ticket  to Parliament or Assembly polls.
She also hinted that various political parties like the PPA, NPP, and others are approaching her and even met the JD(S) leaders and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda on Friday, but did not disclose which party she will join.
“Talks were on with several parties except for BJP and I will declare from which party ticket I will contest with in few days,” she added.
