ITANAGAR, Apr 26: The  valedictory function of the  three-month internship training programme for B.Sc (Forestry) final year students of NERIST, Nirjuli and Dr. KN Modi University, Rajasthan for the year 2019-20  was conducted today here  at  the State Forest Research Institute (SFRI) conference hall.
In his keynote address, PCCF (P&D) Dr Rabindra Kumar exhorted the students to opt for self-employment avenue through forestry. “Forestry in Arunachal Pradesh can offer many things to the unemployed youths. If properly engaged, one can become self-employed and engage in private sectors and NGOs,” Dr Kumar said.
PCCF (RE) Dr Rajesh suggested the students to be more practical and engage in such training programmes to make themselves well equipped. He also asked for induction of more interesting and relevant subjects related to Arunachal Pradesh. SFRI Director Dusu Shra said that the state having rich bio-diversity and second largest forest cover area in the country can serve people in many ways like livelihood, education, food, tourism etc. APSMB CEO T Gapak exhorted the trainees to take the entrepreneurship avenue for self-employment.
Poma Bamboo Processing Centre chairperson Techi Ana informed that there is huge demand of handicraft items made from can and bamboo in national and international markets. Informing that the bamboo processing centre has so far imparted training to seven batches of forestry students, Ana appealed the Department of Environment & Forest to lend more helping hand for successful conduct of such training programmes.
The trainee students shared their field work experiences through power point presentations. Later, dignitaries also gave away certificates to fifteen trainees of both the institutions.
