ZIRO, May 23:Along with rest of the world, the Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC), Hong (Niitii) on Tuesday observed International Day for Biological Diversity at Community Hall, Hanoko (Hong) on the theme Celebrating 25 years of action for biodiversity”.
Attending the celebration as the chief guest, Lower Subansiri district Addl. Deputy Commissioner, Nending Chatung said that human are responsible for destructing the biodiversity. He called on other BMCs of the district to emulate the tireless effort of BMC, Hong (Niitii) and assured to issue executive order for maintaining biodiversity effectively.
Encouraging people to initiate eco-tourist circuit route from Ziro to Talley Valley, DFO Ziro, Koj Rinya, appealed the people to remove traps from the jungle if laid and warned of stern action against people indulging in hunting.
Appreciating the NGOs of Ziro for their concern to preserve the environment, she exhorted them to assist the department in checking illegal hunting and selling of wild animals.
"Plastic is the one of the major cause of concern in our age which affects the environment,” said Ngilyang Tam, IFS, Ex-member secretary, Arunachal Pradesh Biodiversity Board who participated in the celebration as special invitee. He suggested the district administration and NGOs to work jointly for a plastic free environment.
Earlier, Er. Tapi Tai, Advisor, BMC, Hong (Niitii) in his key note address said that the BMC, Hong (Niitii) is working tirelessly towards conservation and management of biological resources for sustainable development including food security and upholding the traditional knowledge of using biological resources in local utilities since its formation in year 2009.
He further highlighted the activities taken up and future action plans.
Earlier, led by its Chairman, Mudang Chalyang, the man behind success of the BMC, Hong (Niitii) a plantation programme in and around the Hanoko was carried out.
