PASIGHAT, Dec 7: The intensified patrolling efforts of Sibiyamukh Range officials of D. Ering Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary here paid off with the arrest of one Sanjoy Litin, a known habitual poacher.
Informing about the arrest, Sibiyamukh Range Officer, Domek Koyu said that a gun shot near Balun area alerted the staff about the presence of hunters/poachers inside the sanctuary and after an intensive search, four hunters were intercepted in the intervening night of December 5 & 6. While three others fled away taking advantage of darkness, Litin, who is originally from Ngorlung village was arrested on the spot.     
A hunted female wild boar, one 12 Bore SBBL gun, 1 kg 420-7500 cartridge with one live and three used ones were seized, informed Koyu. “As per the statement given by Litin, three other accomplices are Mesu Mize from Oyan village, Kale Thapa from Pame, Jampani and Jongai from Jampani area. The seized gun is said to be of Mesu Mize who had been caught earlier also. Divisional Forest Officer Tasang Taga said that such habitual hunters are real threats to the rich flora & fauna of the sanctuary and assured zero tolerance by his department. “I appeal every conscious-minded individual to discourage illegal hunting inside the sanctuary and help the government in preserving it as could be transformed into a future wildlife tourist destination like Kaziranga National Park which will give huge job opportunities to the local people,” added Taga. 

Meanwhile, Adi Baane Kebang Secretary General Okom Yosung has lauded the efforts of the sanctuary authorities in arresting the habitual hunter and also appealed for early arrest of the rest three.
A case has been registered against Litin and three others vide Pasighat PS Case No. 239/2019 U/S 428/34 IPC R/W Section 51 of Wildlife Protection Act R/W Section 25/27 Arms Act. Officer-in-Charge, Pasighat PS Atan Taki assured that the absconders will be arrested soon.
