PASIGHAT, Feb 8: A day after cashier of the Arunachal Pradesh Rural Bank, Mebo Branch was murdered inside the bank on Wednesday night, the locker was opened this afternoon but the cash around Rupees 12 Lakhs was found intact.
The exercise was carried out to check possible cash robbery as part of internal investigation and was carried out in presence of SP, ADC i/c Mebo, CO Mebo, the bank’s senior managers from Naharlagun.
A team of APRB officials from Naharlagun reached Mebo this afternoon but as suspected, the money inside the locker was not robbed, said SP Pasighat, Prashant Gautam and i/c ADC Mebo, EAC Sangeeta Yirang.
The murder of Bomge Nyori is now being seen as a desperate attempt by the assailants to get the chest opened. The cashier was perhaps killed while resisting attempts of the miscreants. A rod was used to hit late Nyori and then a heavy battery (not computer UPS as reported earlier) to inflict fatal injury.
Police has registered a murder case vide Pasighat PS Case No. 23/2018 U/S 302 IPC and intensive investigation has been launched.
“We are working on every angle and hoping to get more clues which will lead to the arrest of the assailants”, added the SP.
As per sources, the assailants might have followed the cashier right from Pasighat SBI from where he withdrew some money and stayed a bit late in the bank while putting it away in the locker. The main switch of the power supply was also found off, wallet of late Nyori along with a lock and an iron rod used to hit him was found immersed in water bucket of the toilet to eliminate finger prints. The culprits fled from the backdoor after breaking the lock, said the sources.
From the meticulous planning, the murder is speculated to be a handy work of a professional or serial robber.
Meanwhile, joining with Mebo MLA, several other organizations like Mebo Intellectual Forum (MIF), All East Siang District Students’ Union, Students’ United Movement of All Arunachal East Siang Unit, All Mebo Circle Students’ Union, All Bogong Students’ Union (E) have all strongly condemned the murder and have appealed the concern authorities not to spare the assailants.
MIF Chief Patron, Bodong Yirang (retired Director Elementary Education), President, Osu Borang, V/P Lining Pertin, Treasurer Lottek Pertin have urged organizations to assist the police in the case.
