Governor chairs high-level security review meeting
ITANAGAR, Mar 23:The Galo Students Union (GSU) on Friday raised serious concern over the illegal engagement of labourers from outside without Inner Line Permit (ILP) by a private firm-JKM infra limited being engaged for highway construction under Lower Siang District.
Informing that it has recently detected many labourers without ILPs during a verification exercise conducted with cooperation of DC Lower Siang, the union stated that almost 90 percent of them were without ILP and proper documents.
Recalling sad incident of Garu wherein a mother of three was raped and brutally murdered by miscreants from outside years back, the union stated “we don’t want such incident to repeat again and government should look into this matter on priority basis for the safety of our people.”
Clarifying that the union is not against construction of highway, but worried over the increasing influx of ILP violators, it called for action against the firm and others who are unlawfully hiring labourers without proper ILPs and giving them shelter on the pretext of such works.
“Our people are insecure by these workers and we won’t let these labourers to set up tent on the way to their fields and homes. The security of people is our highest concern and we cannot let such trend continue any longer in our area,” the union affirmed.
Later the union strongly urged the government to intervene and stop the construction works immediately within 24 hours till issue is resolved.
