Itanagar, Aug 16: Along with the rest of the nation, Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday celebrated the 73rd Independence Day with great pomp and gaiety.
In the State capital here, Governor Brig (retd) BD Mishra hoisted the national flag at Raj Bhavan. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor conveyed his appreciation to the Indian Armed Forces, State Police Paramilitary Forces and the bureaucracy for contributing towards ensuring the safety of individuals and the security, unity and integrity of our Nation.
While recalling the nationalism spirit of freedom fighters, the Governor exhorted the people to have ‘Nation First’ spirit.
Underscoring that today’s children are the future of the Nation, he said ‘a strong foundation for our children is the need of the hour. It is the duty of the elders, teachers and social leaders to instill love for the nation, right values and right conduct in our children.’ The Governor and the First Lady of the State joined the students in a Prabhat Peri.

Addressing Independence Day function at Itanagar, Chief Minister Pema Khandu congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his bold move in J&K, and said,"the provisions of Article 371 are inclusive in nature, but that of Article 370 are primarily divisive. The government has taken the first step towards the inclusive development of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
"I assure the people of my state that the provisions of Article 371-H will continue to stay in force and the same had been categorically assured in the Parliament by the Centre." 
Article 371H vests the governor of Arunachal Pradesh with special responsibility with respect to the law and order situation. It also states that the Legislative Assembly shall consist of not less than thirty members.
Reports of unfurling of the Tricolor and celebration of Independence Day have been received from all districts.
