ITANAGAR, Jan 30: In an effort to create awareness on tax obligations, the Income Tax Department, North East Region (NER) launched a publicity campaign on January 26 last.
The campaign also aimed at highlighting the various new provisions prohibiting certain types of transactions, particularly cash transactions, which attract stiff penalties including the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Amendment Act, 2016.
There is a general and incorrect impression that all incomes of tribal persons/non-individuals such as partnerships, LLPs, companies etc. are exempted from tax. Incomes of all entities other than individuals, and incomes of tribal persons outside scheduled areas are subject to income tax, stated a release.
