ITANAGAR, Apr 3:A team from Itanagar Market Welfare Association(IMWA) carried out a preliminary survey to check measurement of highway width at ten locations along the NH-415 under capital complex and detected anomalies in the widening of the existing road at few locations.
 
It claimed while inspecting they found out that widening of major arteries to four lanes is not maintained properly and varies in great degree ranging from 9 meters in some stretches up to 24 meters in few locations.
 
Referring to Indian Road Congress directive, it informed that as per recommendations the width of Right of Way (Row) for national and ate highway in built up area should have 30 meters and width of four lane should have 23. 5 meters.
 
However it alleged that present widening of NH-415 is not going as per recommendations of IR and stated that because of the unplanned ongoing construction all the parking spaces available for vehicles has been eliminated.
 
 “Due to lack of car parking spaces the traffic congestion reaches its peak during wee hours causing lots of inconvenience to the public,” it informed.
 
It  requested the government to constitute a steering committee to ascertain whether the concern executing department is following the guidelines and maintaining basic components such as road boundary, building boundary and control line along the highways.
 
The association also asked the state government and national highway authority of India to regularly monitor the construction works and ensure that the roads are completed on schedule and according to specifications
