Hyderabad /Delhi, Apr 28: The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) has condemned the attacks on Rajib Bora, a journalist working for DY365 News Channel from Jorhat Assam in the evening of April 27.
Bora was attacked by unidentified miscreants supposedly for airing election related news while returning home from duty. IJU had earlier issued a statement condemning attacks on two journalists in Nalbari and Tinsukia districts of Assam on April 26. IJU and its Assam affiliate, Journalists Union of Assam (JUA) together have expressed grave concern over the on-going attacks on journalists in the state.
Urging the Assam government to ensure safety and security of journalists in the state, IJU had also sought speedy investigations and exemplary punishment for the culprits.
IJU President and member of Press Council of India Amar Devulapally and Secretary General Sabina Inderjit through a statement had asked the Assam government to take immediate action against such systematic attacks on journalists of the state and ensure a free and fearless media environment.
