NAHARLAGUN, Apr 13:

The Naharlagun regional centre of the Indira Gandhi National Open
University (IGNOU) held its 30th Convocation on Thursday in a
glittering ceremony organized here in a city hotel.
A total 42 out of 242 registered students were awarded with degrees in
different disciplines in the programme .
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi
University, T Mibang lauded team IGNOU for its pursuit in giving  best
education to the needy people.
Emphasizing on the need to revamp education scenario in the state,
Mibang pointed out that to bring the state on top among the 8
northeastern states, all must work together in an inter-disciplinary
manner to achieve higher standards of education in the state.
Congratulating outgoing students who got their degrees, MIbang further
advised the recipients to strive for the development of society.

Terming the IGNOU not only as a common institution but an organization
who has given access to all those who have lost the opportunity to
gain access to higher education, Regional Director,(IGNOU), Regional
Director, Sanjeev Kakoti Kakoti  informed that the institute has
successfully provided an opportunity to drop-outs and those who cannot
afford to educate themselves with a platform to improve their
qualifications; thereby has increased their chances of employment.
He said that more than hundreds of pass outs has successfully cracked
NET/SLET and others are doing great in their concern subject fields.
Recalling the contributions of IGNOU in the past few years in the
state especially to tribal society, Sanjeev underscored that after its
establishment it has not only provided education in urban areas  but
has imparted quality education to poor tribal people living in the
remote and far flung areas.
Mentioning that the Regional Centre here in the state capital has
marked an increase in enrollment of students with hundreds of students
enrolled every year, Sanjeev informed that this year about 10000
students registered themselves with IGNOU totalling the enrollment of
students of Sub-regional offices established across the state.
We are hopeful that with this benchmark IGNOU regional centre here in
the state has achieved another milestone and I wish the institute will
prosper with same spirit in coming days too, Sanjeev further added
Assistant Regional Director, Joseph Kuba delivered the vote of thanks
and Consultant Assignment Kenpi Riba delivered the convocation
address. The convocation was held simultaneously at all IGNOU Regional
Centers across the country including its headquarters New Delhi.
