TEZU, Mar 15: Indira Gandhi Government College, Tezu today organised its first ever book fair at the college which received overwhelming response.
The book fair was arranged by the college library jointly with Bamboosa Library,Tezu, local book-sellers and  librarian Manoranjan Das as coordinator. 
Inaugurating the fair, Principal, IGGC Dr. Kangki Megu said that on-line books or ebooks can never replace the joy of reading printed books which are the roots of knowledge. He also encouraged the students to gradually develop their own home libraries.
The exhibition saw hundreds of books from diverse fields and subjects showcased for the students. Apart from books on academics, books of general interest were also exhibited and more than 600 children, students and teachers visited the book fair grabbing the ones of their choice.  
The audience observed a two-minute silence to condole the passing away of Dr Vivek Ponkshe, renowned educationist of Pune and a great friend of the Arunachalee  youths for the last three and a half decades who was also instrumental in conducting numerous educational training programmes for rural students in remote pockets of the Northeast region.
Paying rich tributes to Ponkshe  for his long years of support and counselling to several Arunachalee college students in Pune and Maharashtra, coordinator of Lohit Youth Libraries and the man behind library movement, Satyanarayanan  Mundayoor, also lovingly known as Uncle Moosa recalled how  students  and their parents got Ponkshe’s affection and care.
On this occasion, a separate “Competitive Examination Reference Cell” was inaugurated by the Principal which has a good collection of books to help students prepare for various competitive examinations.  
The organisers were also requested to conduct such book fair in the college at least once in a year for the greater benefit of the students, teachers and general public. IGGC Release
