ITANAGAR, Jun 20: On the occasion of the 6th International Day of Yoga (IDY) which will be observed globally and India including Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday, Governor Brig. (Dr.) B. D. Mishra (Retd.) has extended his greetings to the people of the state.
In his message, Governor, also an avid practitioner of Yoga himself expressed hope that the occasion will inspire people to practise the 5,000-year-old wellness vision which is exclusively of Indian origin. Recalling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative in 2014 which led to the United Nations announcing June 21 as the International Day of Yoga, he said that people across the world irrespective of age, race and nationality have shown trust on Yoga as an effective method to achieve physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being and for curing many chronic ailments as well.
“When the whole world is battling against Covid-19 pandemic, Yoga is the best way to live through lockdown, quarantine/restricted movement period etc.,” Governor said in his message, appealing all to make it a part of the daily routine.
As a precursor to IDY, a preliminary yoga session was conducted on Saturday at the residence of Minister, Sports & Youth Affairs Mama Natung attended by the Director (Sports), Director (Youth Affairs), departmental officers, Yoga experts Bimal Roy and  Sonaraman Shahi from Swami Vivekananda Yog Sanisandhan Sanstha and Kaivalyadhama Yoga Institute respectively who are presently working under the Vivekananda Centre of Human Excellence, Naharlagun.
The whole session has been videographed by  DDK Itanagar which will
be aired on Arun Prabha channel on Sunday to encourage people from all walks of life to adopt Yoga as a part of daily life. As this year due to the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic IDY celebrations will not be observed with large gatherings, "Yoga At Home, Yoga With Family" has been made the theme. Natung while appealing to all citizens of the state to practice Yoga at home with family has also urged all to watch the month-long live Yoga telecast on DDK Itanagar which will prove beneficial for children, youths, senior citizens & corona infected patients.
Thereafter, the Sports Minister chaired a video conference with all District Sports Officers and Coordinators of NYKS & NSS across the state wherein he advised them to adhere to the SOPs on Covid-19 issued by the MHA & State government in letter & spirit. Stressing on the need to carry on with routine official works, he advised all the DSOs to coordinate with the District Sports Associations to spread Covid awareness programmes at grassroots level on social media and motivate the athletes to stick to their training schedules at home.
While appreciating the voluntary services rendered by NYKS & NSS during the pandemic, the Sports Minister has also called for more youth developmental activities across the state.
State Legislative Assembly Speaker Pasang D Sona has extended his best wishes to the people of the State on the occasion of 6th International Day of Yoga.
In his message to the people, the Speaker asserted that ‘Yoga’ is all about balancing your senses, balancing your body, soul and mind in order to live a healthy and peaceful life.
“International Yoga Day” is a reminder that we must keep our mental, emotional, spiritual and physical health before anything else, the Speaker stated while urging everyone to practice Yoga.  PRO Raj Bhavan
