Itanagar, Nov 26 : Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR-CISH) Lucknow Director Dr Shailendra Rajan called on Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar on November 25 last and discussed various issues related to development of agriculture and horticulture products specially sub-tropical fruits and horticulture products in the state.
He assured that ICAR-CISH will provided genuine planting material and technical know-how for hi-tech cultivation for the progressive farmers. DCM advised for professional guava growing in the state. Chief Secretary appreciated the quality of Lalit guava fruits produced at Yachuli by progressive farmer Likha Maj and suggested for a sizeable area under Lalit variety in next few years. Dr Rajan, assured for the best quality planting material from ICAR and training of farmers and other officials in high tech guava cultivation. Earlier Dr. Ranjan visited the guava garden at Yachuli owned by Likha Maj and appreciated him for cultivating one of the best variety of ‘Lalit guava’. He recalled that few years back, Arunachal farmers were trained at CISH Lucknow for a week and continuously guided through WhatsApp and phone. He informed that upcoming food park will require several MT fruits in a month and thus area expansion under Lalit and other variety of fruits such as pine apple, kiwi etc need to be grown in big way for the horticulture development of the state.
ICAR-CISH has assured to continue with technical support and genuine planting material to the progressive farmers and Dr. Ranjan committed to provide 20,000 saplings of Lalit guava plant soon. It needs mentioning that around 50,000 plants were planted by Maj two years back and now they are bearing fruits and recently he had earned around Rs 1.5 lakhs in a single day in Naharlagun local market itself.
